South Boulder “SoBo”

SoBo is one of the more affordable areas for families with children, and offers easy access to Hwy 36 for commuters. These subdivisions are filled with 1960’s ranch homes and 1970’s contemporary houses. Thanks to the generous Open Space and Boulder’s limited development, SoBo is bordered by public hiking trails and ranch land still in use, and remains basically unchanged from the mid-1960’s. Home to NCAR, NOAA and NIST national laboratories, SoBo includes a few different areas, including Devil’s Thumb and Shanahan Ridge, as well as Table Mesa, Rolling Hills, Highland Park, Martin Acres, and Tantra Park. Affordable condos and townhomes, even student rentals, still exist but family homes, are definitely in the majority. The Table Mesa Shopping Center offers a King Soopers and Whole Foods, and shopping such as Runner’s Roost and Neptune Mountaineering. Restaurants include the Southern Sun, Moe’s Broadway Bagel, Southside Walnut Café, Boxcar Mesa, Snarf Sandwiches, Sweet Cow Ice Cream, and Sweet Sisters Bakery. The neighborhood also provides for plenty of activities, including the South Boulder Rec Center and myriad of trailheads all over SoBo from Shanahan Ridge to NCAR.
